The Scatterlight Shawl - Pattern
The Scatterlight Shawl - Pattern
INTRODUCTION
The Scatterlight Shawl is a top-down triangular shawl that blends structured texture sections with playful bursts of assigned pooling. It is worked from a small I-cord tab cast-on at the center neck and grows outward with a central spine. The design alternates between Main Colour (MC) and Contrast Colour (CC) sections, culminating in a flowing wave edge finished with a stretchy bind-off.
SIZES
Wingspan 64” / 162.5 cm and depth 31” / 78.5 cm after blocking.
YARN & YARDAGE
• MC: Auridon Yarns Deluxe Merino Sock (85% superwash merino / 15% nylon, 400 m / 437 yds per 100g) – Colour Florence (used approx. 346m/378y/86.5g)
• CC: Auridon Yarns Deluxe Merino Sock Assigned Pooling (85% superwash merino / 15% nylon, 400 m / 437 yds per 100g) – Colour Pineapple (used approx. 380m/415y/95g)
You can use any assigned pooling yarn for this pattern, but keep in mind that yardage may vary depending on how much of your skein is dyed in the contrasting colour. Alternatively, a non-assigned pooling yarn can also be used for a different but equally beautiful effect.
NEEDLES & NOTIONS
-
US 4 / 3.5 mm circular needles, 32” / 80 cm (or size to achieve gauge)
-
2 stitch markers
-
A tapestry needle

GAUGE
24 sts x 28 rows = 4x4”/10x10 cm (unblocked) in stockinette stitch
Gauge isn’t crucial for this pattern. As long as you like the fabric you’re getting and it drapes well, you’re good to go! Just keep in mind that changes in gauge might affect the final size of your shawl and the amount of yarn you’ll need, so it’s a good idea to have a little extra on hand if you’re making adjustments.
