A rainbow that appears as you knit. This hand-dyed assigned pooling yarn is designed so the contrasting colour sections in the skein form a rainbow motif when you work them in a special stitch. No colourwork, no stranding. The yarn does it for you.
This is the yarn behind the Rainbow Kid Tee, a baby and toddler raglan tee by Psychiaknits with rainbow motifs worked into the yoke. The pattern is sold separately through Psychiaknits on Ravelry. Read the story behind this colourway, and Psychiaknits' first experiments with it, in our guest blog post (includes a video walkthrough of assigned pooling). A new batch of 12 x 100g skeins is being hand-dyed now, so stock will update as they come off the dye pot.
How much yarn do you need? For the Rainbow Kid Tee: 3 months needs 1 skein (100g) of this colourway, 6 months up to 4 years needs 1 to 2 skeins (100g) depending on size, plus a solid contrast colour (Budapest is the colourway used in the sample photos) in a mini or full skein depending on size. Full amounts per size are listed in the pattern. Shop the pre-bundled kits in our Rainbow Kid Tee Launch collection.
This is a directional yarn: start from the marked end and the motif appears exactly as intended. My video tutorials walk you through it, and it works even if you've never tried assigned pooling before.

Absolutely gorgeous!! Makes me want to cast on right now!
