The Bricks ‘n Berries is a bottom-up-knit triangular shawl that captures the whimsical charm of ripe strawberries climbing a rustic brick wall. Worked from the tip to the neck line edge, it features gentle increases along both sides, creating a soft, wearable triangle that drapes beautifully over the shoulders.
The design showcases assigned pooling with a specially dyed variegated yarn (here evoking juicy strawberries in vibrant reds, pinks, and hints of green) paired with a solid or semi-solid contrasting yarn that forms the “brick” backdrop.
As the pooling yarn shifts colors, the pattern assigns textured stitches or sections to highlight those bursts, transforming the natural variegation into deliberate clusters of berries emerging against the structured wall-like texture of the contrast color.
Beginning with a simple garter tab or provisional cast-on, the shawl grows symmetrically with rhythmic stitch changes that play up the yarn’s magic, finishing in a simple edge. It’s an engaging yet approachable project that lets the yarn tell its story, turning playful color repeats into a garden-fresh scene of strawberries tumbling over bricks.
Perfect for that one special skein of assigned pooling yarn waiting to bloom!
