Yarn & Technique Questions
How should I wash and care for the yarn?
Hand wash gently in cool water with a mild wool detergent. Lay flat to dry. Avoid wringing or twisting to keep the fibers beautiful for years to come.
Where does your yarn come from?
I purchase my bases from a handful of wholesale suppliers, most of the yarn is spun in Italy. I always look for wool that's ethically sourced, though I want to be upfront that "mulesing-free" claims in the wool industry are genuinely hard to verify with full certainty, and I don't want to overstate what I can guarantee there. I'm also in the process of phasing cashmere out of my bases: it's a beautiful fibre, but the environmental impact of cashmere goat farming on grassland ecosystems in Mongolia is significant, and it's not something I want to keep building the shop around.
How do you dye the yarn?
I hand dye every skein myself in small batches using professional, high standard acid dyes. To cure and set the dye I use various types of acid. I don't use any other chemicals in my studio, no fillers, no shortcuts, just dye, acid, heat, and time. The heat comes from heaters that are solar powered. Because each batch is done by hand, small variations between skeins are part of the character of hand dyed yarn rather than a flaw.
What is assigned pooling, and how is it different from planned pooling?
Assigned pooling yarn is dyed with a main colour and a contrast section. The contrast colour triggers a cluster stitch, like a strawberry or tulip stitch, to create an intentional motif as you knit or crochet. This is different from planned pooling, which relies on matching your gauge exactly to a specific colour repeat. With assigned pooling, the stitch pattern does the work, so you don't need to fuss over exact gauge.
Can I use any assigned pooling yarn with any assigned pooling pattern?
Yes. My assigned pooling patterns are designed to adapt to generally any assigned pooling yarn, not just one specific colourway. Different colourways will produce different but equally valid results.
Can I use any cluster stitch with any of your assigned pooling colourways?
Sometimes! It depends on the length of the contrast coloured section. If two colourways share the same contrast length, like Strawberry and Pineapple, you can absolutely swap them. Your strawberry motif will just come out in pineapple colours instead of strawberry ones, yellow and green rather than red and green, but the shape will still form perfectly.
Not every colourway can be swapped though. Some have a shorter or longer contrast section, and that will throw off the motif. If you're not sure whether two colourways are interchangeable, just send me a message at info@auridonyarns.com and I'll let you know.
What is the Cake It Up service?
Order your yarn wound into a ready-to-use cake, no untangling skeins required. Look for the item in the search bar and it to your cart alongside your yarn order.
It may add a small amount of time to processing, since it's done by hand before your order ships.
Do you have any vegan yarn options?
Not yet, but they're coming! I'm currently working on my first vegan base: a lyocell/tencel fingering-weight yarn, launching in some of my best selling assigned pooling colourways. I'm expecting it in store around October 2026. If it's well received, I'd love to expand into more vegan yarn types down the line, and I'm always happy to hear suggestions, so if there's a fibre or weight you'd love to see, send me a message at info@auridonyarns.com!

Shipping Questions
How is the yarn wrapped?
I always double-wrap the yarn in order to protect it from critters and clumsy delivery staff. :) If you have specific requests regarding the packaging, please let me know and I will try to work something out.
What about US tariffs?
For all the US customers: all tariffs are taken care of before I will ship. Therefore, you will not receive any bills or invoices after receiving your parcel.
Do you ship to Norway?
Yes, we are a VOEC registered business and therefore ship to Norway without any issues. Keep in mind there will be a 25% tax due to Norwegian tax regulations.
How quickly do you ship after I order?
I aim to ship every weekday, Monday to Friday. Most orders go out within 1-2 business days, but since I run this alongside another job and two small kids, there can occasionally be a short delay of a few extra days, especially around custom dye requests or busy periods. If your order is time-sensitive, let me know and I'll do my best to prioritise it.
Can I combine multiple orders to save on shipping?
If you place two orders close together and haven't received a shipping confirmation yet, message me and I'll try to combine them into one parcel before dispatch.
I entered the wrong shipping address, what do I do?
Contact me as soon as possible, ideally before your order ships. Once a parcel is with the carrier I can no longer change the address.
My tracking hasn't updated in a while, is something wrong?
Carriers occasionally have gaps in scanning, especially crossing borders. Give it a few business days; if there's still no movement, reach out and I'll follow up with the carrier.
Do shipping times change around fiber festivals or markets?
Yes, if I'm attending a market I may not be able to ship that day or the day before. I'll post a notice on my socials/homepage when this applies.

Pattern & Design Questions
How do I receive my pattern after purchase?
Patterns are delivered digitally and automatically after checkout. You'll get a download link by email.
Can I use your patterns with yarn from other dyers?
Most patterns will work with any suitable base, but the assigned pooling patterns specifically need an assigned pooling yarn (mine or another dyer's) to create the intended motif.
What if I find an error in a pattern?
Please let me know right away. All my patterns are tech edited and tested, but if something slipped through, I'll fix it and send you the corrected version.
Can I test your patterns before they're released?
Yes! I run my pattern testing through my testing pool on YarnPond, that's where all my test calls are held. Testers regularly get discounted or free yarn, and I also run giveaways and give away free patterns from time to time. Sign up on YarnPond to be notified when a new test opens.
