New yarn colours, a sock pattern and a vintage knitting machine

I’ve always had a soft spot for vintage items, especially if they still have a bit of mystery and history attached to them. This week I found a real gem: a Brother KH820 knitting machine from 1974 at the local thrift store! It looks like it’s been sitting in a dusty attic somewhere for the past few decades. Dust everywhere, some mold here and there (nice) and — I swear — I think I even saw a woodlouse crawling away in a corner. Old finds always come with their own mini-ecosystem.

So, what's on the agenda for today? Cleaning it up and seeing if it still works . I'm not usually a cleaning hero (life's too short), but when the difference is this noticeable, I'm happy to put in the effort. There's something incredibly satisfying about bringing an old appliance back to life, and I hope this one has a few more projects in it.

What else happens

While the machine is getting its beauty treatment, there’s also a lot going on behind the scenes. New colours are drying as I write this , and I can’t wait to show them off. Bright, cheerful and perfect for spring knits — or whatever mood you’re in.

I am also working on a new sock pattern that works especially well with gradient and variegated yarns . If you have ever been looking for a pattern that is somewhat friendly to those busy color gradients, this is the one for you. Simple enough to let the yarn shine, but with just enough detail to keep the knitting interesting.

And yes, I know… I still need to put all my patterns on the website . It’s on the list. Somewhere.

That’s all for now — time to roll up our sleeves, grab a cloth, and see if this Brother KH820 wants to knit another stitch.
