My First Assigned Pooling Yarn: Strawberry 🍓
Today is the day: my very first assigned pooling yarn is born! And what a yarn: a cheerful, summery play of colours that I named Strawberry .
What is Assigned Pooling?
For those who are not familiar with the phenomenon: assigned pooling is a special dyeing technique where parts of the yarn are dyed in a contrasting color. While knitting, you change stitches as soon as you reach that part of the color. This automatically creates a pattern or texture in your work.
In the case of Strawberry , something magical happens:
-
The long stitches in deep red, fuchsia and creamy white become the strawberry itself .
-
And once you get to the fresh, cheerful green , knit the strawberry crown on.
This way, a strawberry motif will slowly but surely appear in your knitting, without complicated knitting patterns or charts. Simply by following the colours in your skein.
Directional Yarn
Important to know: this yarn is a directional yarn . This means that the pattern only works out well if you knit in one direction: the red/pink part first and then the green.
Video instruction
Because assigned pooling works a little differently than regular plain or mixed yarn, I made a YouTube video in which I show you step by step how to work with this yarn. You can find the link with the product in the webshop and via my social media.
Why Strawberry?
The choice of colour was a no-brainer. I wanted something cheerful, summery and recognisable. For me, strawberries are associated with bare feet in the grass, picnics in the park and the smell of sun on your skin. I wanted to capture that atmosphere in a skein of yarn and I believe I succeeded.
Availability
Strawberry is now available in the webshop, in limited edition. Since this is my very first assigned pooling color, I made a small edition to test and see what you think.
I can't wait to see what you make! Share your projects on Instagram with #auridonstrawberries, I'll be following!
Love,
Sophie
